Individual Support Services
Djirra’s Individual Support Service empowers you to build a safe, independent and positive life free from family violence.
Our Individual Support Service (ISS) provides family violence case management support to:
- Aboriginal women and their children
- Sistergirls
- Brotherboys
- Trans and gender diverse people
- Non-binary, intersex and queer folk who identify as women or feel comfortable accessing a women's service.
While Djirra does not provide services to Aboriginal men, we will always provide warm referrals to culturally safe services.
We can support you on your healing journey from family violence:
- By listening and yarning about your experiences
- By creating a safe space where culture is understood and celebrated
- By conducting safety planning and risk assessments, empowering you to keep yourself and your children safe
- By providing information, referrals and support with housing, health, finances and employment options to manage and consolidate safety for you and your family
- Through specialised supports such as family violence case management, counselling or alcohol and other drugs support and treatment
We can also connect you with other Djirra services and programs such as legal services, cultural and wellbeing workshops, and our Koori Women’s Place.
Reach out today if you need support.
We warmly welcome Aboriginal women who are experiencing, or at risk of, family violence to reach out for support. Our ISS team is available from 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday on 1800 105 303. You can also reach us via email at support@djirra.org.au
Individual supports available include:
Specialised case management
This is a safe place where your case manager will walk alongside you on your healing journey from family violence. Case managers empower you to make informed decisions around your social and emotional wellbeing, and your safety.
Alcohol and other drug support (AOD)
Djirra has a holistic and culturally safe AOD program, which can assist you if you have a problem with drugs or alcohol. Our specialised AOD practitioners will walk alongside you to identify and find strategies to address the harms associated with substance misuse. This includes supporting your children, extended family and community.
Counselling
Counselling is a safe, confidential and non-judgmental place to talk about and explore your options.
The counsellor will listen and assist you to think about things in a different way and, if needed, they can connect you with other services or support.
Phone support
Phone support is available to Aboriginal women available from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday via Freecall 1800 DJIRRA (105 303).
As a caller you can expect:
- a safe conversation
- assessment of needs and safety
- connection to a range of services and support
