Individual Support Services

Djirra’s Individual Support Service empowers you to build a safe, independent and positive life free from family violence.

Our Individual Support Service (ISS) provides family violence case management support to Aboriginal women* and their children.

We can support you on your healing journey from family violence:

  • By listening and yarning about your experiences
  • By creating a safe space where culture is understood and celebrated
  • By conducting safety planning and risk assessments, empowering you to keep yourself and your children safe
  • By providing information, referrals and support with housing, health, finances and employment options, we work you with to manage and mitigate safety concerns.
  • Through specialised supports such as family violence case management, counselling or alcohol and other drugs support and treatment

We can also connect you with other Djirra services and programs such as legal services, cultural and wellbeing workshops, and our Koori Women’s Place.

We warmly welcome Aboriginal women who are experiencing, or at risk of, family violence to reach out today if you need support.

Our ISS team is available Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm on 1800 105 303 (1800DJIRRA). You can also reach us via email at support@djirra.org.au

*Aboriginal women and their children, sistergirls, brotherboys, trans and gender diverse people, non-binary, intersex and queer folk who identify as women, or who feel comfortable accessing a women’s service. While Djirra does not provide services to Aboriginal men, we will always provide warm referrals to culturally safe services.

Supports available include:

Specialised FAMILY VIOLENCE case management

This is a culturally safe space where your case manager will listen and yarn with you to understand your strengths, your experience of violence and what support will help keep you and your family safe. Your case manager will walk alongside you and empower you to make informed decisions around your social emotional wellbeing and safety, to support you on your healing journey from family violence.

Alcohol and other drug support (AOD)

This is a holistic and culturally safe AOD program. If you are wanting support around AOD substance use, we offer a range of early intervention and treatment strategies which allow you to make your own choices towards your recovery. AOD practitioners can walk alongside you in identifying behaviours, developing strategies to reduce the harm. The Djirra AOD program is also accredited by the court system to work with mandatory statewide forensic referrals.

Counselling

Counselling is a safe, confidential and non-judgmental place to talk about and explore your options.

The counsellor will listen and assist you to think about things in a different way and, if needed, they can connect you with other services or support.

Phone support

Phone support is available to Aboriginal women available Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm via Freecall 1800DJIRRA (1800 354 772).

As a caller you can expect:

  • a safe conversation
  • assessment of needs and safety
  • connection to a range of services and support
